Augmented reality is a marketer’s dream come true!  It combines unique and engaging experiences with storytelling. Even better – it is inexpensive and relatively easy to create.  The AR market has exploded and the early adopters have shown that it works to engage, inform and entertain.

There are many marketing and branding AR use cases to be found across the country but today we will bring you two successful local examples who will give you a demo of what they have done, describe what it took to bring them to fruition and the lessons they have learned thus far.  You will see demos of using AR for marketing and branding purposes from:

Sajjad Khan
Director of Product, 7Rewards & Loyalty – 7-Eleven

Sajjad Khan is the Director of Product Management for all loyalty programs at 7-Eleven, Inc. In this role, he is responsible for building best in class loyalty program that makes every customer’s visit to 7-Eleven most valuable and memorable through rewards that give them the most value. He is responsible for the P&L of all things loyalty while partnering with Operations, Franchisee’s and Merchandising to help franchisee’s run their business and delight our customers.

He brings a wealth of leadership and digital expertise to 7‑Eleven® from variety of positions across different verticals such as Banking, Education Technology, Marketing and E-Commerce. Most recently, Sajjad Khan led the digital transformation team at Capital One that built the best in class digital mortgage experience to disrupt the mortgage industry. Prior to Capital One, he served as main Product Lead at Texas Instruments for their educational technology portfolio to bring to market best in class mobile apps featured in Apple’s App Store Hall of Fame category.

Sajjad Khan graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington., where he studied Computer Science & Engineering and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science Engineering. He earned his MBA degree in Entrepreneurship Management from Southern Methodist University. He and his wife Shefaq reside in Mckinney, Texas with their two children.

 

Jason Hoover
Director of Tech innovation R&D, Capital One

Corporate entrepreneur, innovator, and inventor, Jason looks to both technology and the marketplace to discover new exciting ways for customers to engage with their financial products. Jason has a background in software engineering and has led several teams across Capital One deliver amazing products to our customers.  He’s also a speaker on emerging topics at SxSW and FowardDFW.  Jason’s recent work has included computer vision and augmented reality, as well blockchain, quantum computing, and IoT research.

 

Megan Baker
Sr. Director of Brand Marketing – Capital One

Megan Baker, Sr. Director Brand Marketing, drives innovative marketing strategies and operational excellence to unlock new business value. She leads a team responsible for the marketing and advertising of Capital One Auto Finance. In this role, she strengthens the Capital One Brand through development of B2C advertising, marketing strategy, brand insights and content. Prior to joining Capital One in 2014, Megan spent 7 years at AT&T where she managed global brand governance & marketing strategy. Megan’s early career experience includes product, promotional and service marketing for BellSouth, Summit Marketing and Ford Motor Company.

Preston McCauley

Preston is currently the Principal AR, VR UX Designer and Strategist at Clear Sight Designs LLC.  In his twenty years of experience design, he has held many leadership roles and now serves as the owner of a UX design consultancy, where he is often brought in to help other consultants solve complicated business and design problems.  Through his career, he has had the opportunity to work in many industries and across several verticals in both the corporate and start-up world. At the root of these successes is the ability to identify the issues and opportunities in business processes to help drive towards building robust product implementations, with the latest in tools and technology.

Preston is a co-founder of the UX program at SMU where he has taught Practical user experience strategy & process methodology for four years. While teaching at SMU he has collaborated on new curriculum and has recently developed a new course: “Design Principles in AR, VR and Holograms” starting January 15.  www.smu.edu/cape

Preston is also the co-founder Dallas AR / VR Design & Development group in Dallas Texas with currently over 750 members. He has acted as an AR / VR / UX mentor for SXSW in Austin, Texas, and has spoken at over twenty different industry events. In past years he was selected to provide an online course to help acclimate others to the rise of AR and VR.

He is often visible in the community speaking, teaching and educating people on the latest in breakthrough technology, tools, and skills.
